Any successful football team on the field needs an equally strong head office and solid financial backing off to become successful. Without one, the other may not succeed.
That’s why we’ve taken great care here at Northwest Advanced Bio-Fuels LLC to put together the strongest team, with excellent financial vision off the field as well as on the field. In this blog post, we want to focus on our well-known guy in financial and operations circles and is the right team member running our Project’s financing needs.
Below is a look at Bernie Asher, our Chief Financial Officer.
Bernie is a finance expert, as well as having deep experience in business operations. Bernie has been President and CEO of public and private growth companies and served as managing director/partner of several investment firms. He has served as CFO or Head of Operations for 3 of Dave Smoot’s previous companies, providing them with years of experience working together over 35 years.
Their trust in one another’s skills, knowledge of each other’s loyalty, along their willingness to work together to resolve any issue is one reason they have created such a successful “Team” at Northwest Advanced Bio-Fuels.
Mr. Asher’s sense for both company and investor perspectives has successfully enabled NWABF to execute focused business strategies while putting together a financial plan to maximize future revenues, prepare funding documentation and presentations and develop the Project’s exit strategies.
On the NWABF Team, Bernie is instrumental in putting together the team’s financial modeling (playbook), budgeting, contract negotiations, and leading fundraising activities for the Team. Bernie accepts the responsibility for the accuracy of the financial projections for the Project. He also helps to manage communications with interested prospective Project investors.
“Bernie and I have known each other for over 30 years, and we’ve worked on many companies and financial deals throughout those years,” recalls Dave Smoot, Manager of the NWABF Project. “He’s my right-hand guy who we need for making major financial, fundraising, and investment decisions for the company. I can’t imagine our Project moving forward the way it has in the past 24 months without Bernie on our side of the field.”

David P. Smoot
David Smoot has an extensive background in Project Development, including the Financing and Technology Integration for those Projects. Mr. Smoot also held positions of upper management with leading companies in the Computer Software and Hardware industries, including the Financing and Leasing industries specifically related to those industries prior to moving into the renewable energy industry which morphed into renewable fuels. Smoot has created a turnkey solution model not yet seen in the industry.
